Sugar Alert

Psycho Behavior

By Dean L. Jones, C.P.M.

Even blood pressure pills have taken second place to the number of people using antidepressants.  An estimated 10% of the nation (30 million people) is taking antidepressants (antipsychotic mediations) everyday.  Doctors unhesitatingly prescribe antipsychotic drugs absent of talk therapy, and they are rarely resolute about ensuring their patient practices effectual and efficient eating habits.

In view of that, the question of how eating certain foods may be a destructive force to the brain deserves attention.  Why not, refined sugar comes with no nutritional value, as it is distilled from brown sugar which was distilled from molasses thereby becoming a potentially addictive food chemical.  Processed sugars, including honey have had some or all of its chemical bonds broken down between their basic components due to the amount of processing.

Once eaten, processed sugars immediately raise the insulin level of the blood and also raise the endorphins level, a natural mood upper in the brain.  Refined sugars cause the body to receive a chemical high in the brain, which results in a lift in mood.  Continuous large doses of refined sugar, overtime, usually cause the brain's endorphin sites to slow production or close sites to regulate the amount of endorphins in the brain.  When the body cuts back on endorphin production it reduces the amount of endorphins available in the body at any given time.  As a result, the lack of enough endorphin in the brain causes slight to deep depression.

While all of this is going on, advertisements of sugar filled products run rampant everywhere we look and listen.  Meanwhile, as the manufactured refined sugar consumption slows down and stops, there are two chemical related reactions moving into state of depression.  First, the glut of insulin depressing the system and the lack of endorphins in the brain.  Whether you knowingly or unknowingly understand about sugar abuse to the body, it will cause physical and/or mental problems such diabetes and some bi-polar disorders.

To get away from processed refined sugar cravings, or sugar fits, try fruit's natural sugar.  Natural sugars are not as potent as the concentrated processed sugars or sugar substitutes.  After an extended use of eating whole fresh fruit and an elimination of processed sugar or sugar substitutes, the body becomes more sensitive to the sweetness of the fruit.  In a short time, the brain will usually register the withdrawal of the concentrated processed sugars as the fruit having increased in sweetness.

People with depression are 4 times as likely to develop a heart attack as those without a history of the illness.  As well as, depression can bring about other illnesses, including chronic pain, arthritis, diabetes, and immune system deficiencies; making you vulnerable to viruses and bacteria.  So, be sugar alert at all times.
